Is version 11.1.0 really supposed to only support iOS 15.0?

I just installed version 11.1.0 and get warnings that it is only supported on iOS 15 and later because of attributes on AppBuilderExtensions. Is that deliberate? I see there is a commit that seems to specifically update it but there were no requirements before and it seems pretty aggressive, especially if it is supposed to align with MAUI supported versions, which have a minimum of 11.

Obviously certain features are only supported on certain OS versions, but the entire library being locked down that much was a surprise.

The supported Android versions go back 10 years. iOS 11 is about 7 years old. Now the supported iOS versions only go back 3 years.

Anyway, it may be deliberate and for good reason. I was just checking because I wouldn't mind supporting older OS versions.

Yes, we support iOS 15+

I don't know why we upped it to 15, I assume it is because the MAUI templates create projects with a minimum version of 15 to encourage developers to use 15+. The minimum version for MAUI is currently 12.2 for iOS but I expect that will increase given their decision to increase the version in the templates.

The issue i have with it is the justification, our project manager wants us to support as many devices as possible so on XF had it set to 11.0, since migrating to maui we had to explain we needed to increase it to 12.2, and they accepted that because they know its a platform restriction.

But now trying to explain we have to up it again to 15.0, and its not a platform restriction, but a 3rd package restriction is harder to push.

So for now, we are just going to live with the warning as i dont think any of the feature we use are limited to 15+

According to Apple's data, 87% of iOS users are on iOS 17 or higher: https://developer.apple.com/support/app-store/

Apple itself recommends only supporting the "Current Version of iOS minus 1"; i.e. apps submitted to the App Store today should be supporting iOS 17+.

That's totally fine. Just remember that any Issue reporting a bug found on iOS 14 or lower will be closed as Not Supported.

If anyone would like to join the .NET MAUI CommunityToolkit maintainer team to ensure our libraries support earlier versions of iOS please let me know! We are a small team of volunteers and supporting older operating systems requires a massive investment that we cannot currently support due to its very small ROI.
