Need the ability to filter 4 player versions of games

Currently, the filters grab the 4 player variants of popular beat-em-up games, like TMNT, Simpsons, X-Men, etc.

These versions of the games don't allow you to pick your character, locking each controller to a specific port.

Adding the option to prefer 2 player versions of games as Launchbox does would be great.

I was looking for the exact same thing.
Maybe the simplest is putting the 2p version by default.
If that can help I made a list of 4 players version with their corresponding 2 player version. Maybe it's non exhaustive as I based my research on the description.

If you want more precision you can use ADB and filter on the number of players, like so: http://adb.arcadeitalia.net/?search=mame&players_mode_sim=4&input_players_from=4&input_players_to=4 (additional filters > input > concurrent = four + players from four to four).

However it shows all the games that can be played by 4 people, including all the ones that don't have a 2 players variant. Maybe your method is sufficient.
