Hey,

I just came across this project while googling how to try and get more usefulness out of the current deepnest. First off, after reading your posts glad to see you working on this! My use-case for this would involve needing to be loading a lot of different files making it tedious via the UI and error prone. Is there an easy way I could mod the current UI to allow either a table to enter my "BOM", or just upload a properly formatted .csv?

Don't think that it would make sense. Can you please explain more what should be the benefit?

And what is table in this case mean?
A csv i can imagine, how it could be look like.

But we have already something that could help you:

set Environment SAVE_PLACEMENTS_PATH to the path where you have saved your svg files
BACKGROUND.svg with the "bin" polygon is used as the bin. I'm currently not sure if it is only matching on the complete name or if it also supports the name.qty.svg syntax like item1.12.svg to have it 12 times

To enable this feature with quantity you need to enable the new option, in the options. And restart the app with the environment to load them automatically.

Okay, I understand. My way described above is basically exactly what you need, as long as we don't have a way to process CSV files that brings the simplification you want.
If you are using Linux or MacOS, it would be easy to create folders with symlinks to the original files, which then basically have exactly the same behaviour that you can expect from a CSV import.

All that would be necessary is a folder with such a structure:

# your basic folder with all your svg files
/home/User1/documents/all_my_svg/
- outline1.svg
- outline2.svg
- ...
- outlin100.svg


# now the "production folder"
/home/User1/documents/prepared_workload/order1
- item1.10.svg -> symlink (ln -sf <target> <destination> = ln -sf /home/User1/documents/allmysvg/outline1.svg /home/User1/documents/prepared_workload/order1/item1.10.svg  ) -> /home/User1/documents/allmysvg/outline1.svg
- item4.25.svg -> symlink -> /home/User1/documents/allmysvg/outline4.svg
- item404.50.svg -> symlink -> /home/User1/documents/allmysvg/outline404.svg
- BACKGROUND.svg -> symlink -> /home/User1/documents/allmysvg/bin/bin400x400mm.svg

now you only need a script that push SAVE_PLACEMENTS_PATH=/home/User1/documents/prepared_workload/order1 to the environment before opening the deepnest app.

Hope that makes it easier for you for the time being, as long as we can't read in a CSV.

btw. it will also work on windows, but I'm not familar with the commands for symlinks.

I actually "made" a tool with chatgpt for this purpose. You can simply load a sheet of numbers for it and it creates SVG containing rectangles based on the sizes in the sheet. Then you can load that SVG to deepest to to the actual nesting.
Although that shouldn't too difficult to implement as a feature into the deepest itself.

And I cannot code almost at all! :D
Here is the code as HTML-file that opens in browser and you can save the SVG from there. Just change the sizes how you like.

EDIT: HTML doesn't seem to work here, but you get the point

Will add a function to import RECT from a EXCEL/ODS/CSV file. See #97

Also I will look, how I can make a Import of "Partslist" that will import files from EXCEL/ODS/CSV and JSON, as "Project".
