Issues with pudb in WSL1

Are you interested to improve pudb for WSL1?

I have a couple of things that seem to be troubling with it:

Happy to review PRs. But I have no way of testing them myself.

I thought initially the issue was much more trivial ipython/ipython#14480, but it seems not ipython/ipython#14480 (comment)

I'm happy to discuss here or there - any insights you might want to offer are welcome!
