onsubmit function execution?

Hi, thanks for your module :). Is there a way to run a function on file submit? (Not on server response)

I'm wondering if this is possible too. We're already using our custom build api to convert binary files to base64 and upload them. Would be great if clicking the upload function can trigger our own in house upload function.
