It is a mystery to me: if I edit a markdown file and have an image in the clipboard, I can paste it in the WYSIWYG panel, but not the source code. In slides, however, I CAN paste images in the source code and see the link to the blob. It would be nice to support it in the .md editor as well.

It's just not implemented. Every single one of these different variations has to get implemented for it to work. Thanks for clearly enumerating one that is missing.
